Cloud A2K based in Australia and New Zealand is working predominately with non-Autodesk technologies aiming to provide competitive services in the Architectural, Engineering and Construction marketplace.
A2K, like many other businesses, was reliant on aging on-premises infrastructure based in Sydney for supporting all of their offices across Australia and New Zealand. Not only was the infrastructure past end-of-life, but A2K’s Windows 2008 R2 servers were left exposed to security risks since Microsoft Extended Support had ended.
With a pending office relocation also on the strategic roadmap, it was decided to make the transition from on-premises to the Microsoft Azure cloud. Intwo was selected to assist, manage, and support A2K’s migration to the cloud due to their Azure knowledge and reputation as an Azure Expert MSP. By choosing Intwo, Cloud A2K ensure their most important and business-critical applications remain secure, high performant, and supported 24/7.
Intwo made use of a “Lift and Shift” approach using Azure Site Recovery to help A2K make the transition from on-premises to the Microsoft Azure Cloud.
A “Lift and Shift” is a phased approach, which allows us to design, deploy, operate, and continuously optimize. The first step is migrating the existing workloads (‘lifting and shifting’ them to the cloud). After that, optimizations and enhancements are easier to implement and test.
This approach allowed for minimal disruption to ongoing services for A2K users as the servers were replicated in the background. A final synchronization was done before the actual migration cut over to ensure that downtime from migration was kept to an absolute minimum.
Intwo’s team spent a large amount of time collaborating with the A2K team to plan, architect, and deploy their business-critical application from on-premises to the Azure cloud. Andrew Hill, Business Manager for Cloud A2K, describes this migration as, “a successful experience whereby all aspects went according to the well-structured plan. Additionally, the physical transition capped to one weekend once everything was prepared and, as a result, we had zero downtime of staff.”
